From Iowa DNR’s website, “Banner Lakes at Summerset State Park is nestled in the rolling landscape between Des Moines and Indianola. The area was once the site of a coal mine and transformed into a state park in 2004. Summerset is a quiet destination for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy fishing, hiking and biking.”
From Central Iowa Trail Authority’s website, “Banner Lakes, located in Summerset State Park, is host to around 5.5 miles of singletrack. They range from easy to difficult. Most are tight singletrack through woods, or on top of the former strip-mine's tailings. They flow well and fast. Prepare for some short, challenging climbs and being rewarded with fast descents.”
